Bosch Dishwasher E09 Error – Circulation Pump With Heater Replacement
A real KLIA NY appliance repair case.
Customer-reported problem
The customer reported that the Bosch dishwasher was no longer completing its wash cycle and the dishes were coming out dirty and not properly washed.
Diagnosis
The dishwasher was first tested through a normal operating cycle. The unit filled with water correctly, drained properly, and the circulation pump was moving water, so the basic fill, drain, and circulation functions initially appeared normal. Approximately midway through the cycle, however, the dishwasher stopped and displayed an E09 fault code. The fault pointed the diagnosis toward the heating circuit integrated into the circulation pump assembly. Using the dishwasher’s electrical diagram, the heater circuit was tested from the control-board side. Resistance across the heating circuit was checked and an open circuit was found, confirming that the integrated heating element had failed. Because the heater is incorporated into the circulation/heat pump assembly on this design, replacement of the complete pump assembly was recommended.
Repair performed
A new circulation pump with the integrated heating element was ordered. During the return visit, the dishwasher was disconnected and removed from the cabinet to gain proper access to the lower assembly. The unit was carefully positioned upside down so the lower plastic base could be unclipped and removed. Once the base was removed, access to the circulation/heat pump assembly was available. The failed pump assembly was removed and replaced with the new unit. The dishwasher was then reassembled, returned to its installed position, reconnected, and tested. Replacing only the heater was not recommended. On this design, the heating element is integrated with the pump assembly and is not intended as a practical standalone service replacement. Considering the dishwasher was approximately ten years old, replacing the complete assembly also avoided retaining an aging circulation pump alongside a newly repaired heating circuit.
Result
After replacement of the circulation/heat pump assembly, the dishwasher was tested through operation again. The E09 fault did not return, the cycle continued normally, and the heating function was restored. The repair successfully resolved the original complaint of the dishwasher stopping before completing the wash cycle.
