LG Washer Not Spinning – Drain Pump Replacement in Manhattan Beach
A real KLIA NY appliance repair case.
Customer-reported problem
The customer reported that the LG washer was completing the wash cycle but was not properly spinning the clothes. The door remained locked, and the laundry was left excessively wet.
Diagnosis
On arrival, standing water was visible inside the drum, so diagnosis began with the drain system. The remaining water was drained manually and the drain pump filter was removed and inspected. A small amount of debris was present in the filter, but there was not enough blockage to explain the complete drainage and spin problem. After the laundry was removed, the washer was tested again using a drain/spin cycle. The drain pump motor could be heard and the impeller would rotate when unloaded. However, when resistance was applied to the impeller, it stopped rotating. This indicated an internal mechanical failure of the drain pump. The motor was still attempting to operate, but the damaged impeller could no longer maintain enough torque under load to move water effectively. Because the washer could not drain the tub correctly, it was unable to proceed into a normal high-speed spin cycle and the door remained locked with water inside.
Repair performed
A compatible replacement drain pump was available on the service vehicle, allowing the repair to be completed during the same visit. The failed drain pump was removed and replaced. As part of the service, the inlet valve screens at the water supply connections were also inspected and cleaned to remove accumulated debris and help maintain proper water flow. The washer was then reassembled and tested through the drain and spin functions. The customer was also given basic maintenance recommendations, including periodic cleaning of the drain pump filter and checking the water supply connections.
Result
After replacement of the drain pump, the washer drained normally and completed the spin cycle correctly. The drum accelerated to normal spin speed, the standing-water condition was eliminated, and the door unlocked normally after the cycle. No additional problems were found during final testing, and the repair was completed successfully during the same service visit.
