LG Washer Not Turning On – Main Control Board Replacement in Brooklyn

Customer-reported problem

The customer reported that the LG washer had stopped turning on completely. The washer was plugged into the outlet, but pressing the Power button produced no response. The display remained off and the machine appeared completely dead.

Diagnosis

Diagnosis began by verifying the electrical supply to the washer. The wall outlet had proper line voltage, and power was also confirmed through the washer’s power cord and into the appliance. The Power button and related control input were then checked and were found to be functioning properly. Further electrical testing revealed an unusual condition: approximately 60–75 volts were present on multiple circuits inside the washer even while the machine was switched off. This abnormal voltage distribution pointed toward a failure within the main electronic control system. The main control board was removed for inspection. Visible heat damage and discoloration were found around an electronic component on the board, consistent with an internal component failure or short circuit. Based on the electrical measurements and visible board damage, the main control board was diagnosed as the failed component.

Repair performed

A replacement main control board was ordered. Although the control board was a relatively expensive component, the washer was otherwise in good mechanical condition and the customer chose to repair the appliance rather than replace it. During the return visit, the failed main control board was removed and the replacement board was installed. The washer was then reassembled and tested.

Result

After replacement of the main control board, the washer powered on normally and returned to proper operation. The display and controls responded correctly, and the washer operated normally during testing. The successful repair confirmed that the no-power condition was caused by the failed main control board. A similar no-power symptom has been encountered on several other LG washers during service calls, where failure of the main control board was also found to be the cause. Each appliance should still be electrically diagnosed individually before replacing the board.
